Costa Rica and Coffee Growing
Although Costa Rica is a small country which has oceans by both sides, it is home for one of the best coffee beans in the world. This is because it has some regions with high elevation and the right combination of soil and climate for coffee to grow properly. The quantity of coffee that originates from this country yearly might not be as much as that of countries like Brazil, but the quality is superb.
There are several regions, though small, that produce coffee. Many of them produce different coffee with different quality. Below, little details about some of these coffees are available.
The Tarrazu Coffee
The Tarrazu coffee derives its name from the Tarrazu region where farmers grow it. It is one of the region where coffee supply is consistent. The minimum altitude in this region is around 1,200 meters while some areas are as high as 1,700 meters. As a result, Costa Rica Tarrazu coffee is one of the best. This is because apart from the altitude, the soil is good and the climatic conditions are favorable. One special thing about the coffee is its full-body and complex aroma.
The Monte Crisol Coffee
The Monte Crisol coffee is grown in the West Central Valley in Costa Rica. The coffee is arguably one of the best in the country. Its popularity is borne out of its sweet taste. In addition to that, its fruity brightness and silky body makes it highly sought for.
The Alajuela Coffee
The coffee got its name from the region, Alajuela. The region is located in the North-Central part of Costa Rica. One very distinctive thing with this region is the steeply slopes and altitudes that range from 100 – 2,600 meters. Although the region has a wide range of altitude, most of the coffee grown there is at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,600 meters. No doubt, the coffee is popular for its apricot and apple flavor.
The three coffees discussed above are not the only ones in Costa Rica but they are the major ones.
